The Fernwood Cove Horse Program offers horsemanship for campers of all ages and riding abilities. Campers receive instruction in riding, ground skills and equine psychology based on the philosophy of love, language and leadership. Campers register for either the “One Week” or “Three Week” Horse Program outside of their regular activity sign-ups. An additional fee for the Horse Program is applied to tuition expenses for any camper who participates in either program. Space in both programs is limited and available on a first come, first served basis. Campers must be registered for horse program prior to coming to camp.
The Fernwood Cove Horse Program instructors provide a wealth of knowledge and experience to the program. Instructors have many years experience with horsemanship and receive training specific to the Fernwood Cove Horse Program. The Horse Program instructors work and play with horses daily to ensure their health and soundness. Each camper is carefully paired with a horse that matches her riding capabilities.
One Week Riding
The one week option of the Horse Program allows campers to experience horses while in camp without having to make a three-week commitment. The one week option provides campers with one focus week of instruction and is ideal for campers who are new to horses. This program allows campers to develop confidence around horses, learn about horse psychology and introduces them to riding in the arena.
Three Week Riding
The three week option of the Horse Program is designed for the camper who desires a more in-depth experience. These campers participate in the Horse Program as a regular focus activity during each regular activity day of camp. The three week program also focuses on developing confidence around horses, and learning horse psychology. It also allows campers to further their skill development and knowledge and work towards more advanced riding skills.
