The Counselor-In-Training (CIT) program is a structured, interactive, full-summer program that will provide CITs with the opportunity to become a positive leader and role model and learn about the various aspects involved in making camp successful.
Orientation and On-Going Training
The CIT program begins with a CIT Orientation which is very similar to our Counselor/Staff Pre-Camp Training. This orientation will allow CITs to learn various Fernwood Cove policies and procedures. CITs will also gain valuable knowledge and skills in working with youth, handling homesickness, event planning and leading camp activities. Throughout the summer CITs will participate in instructional workshops and hands-on activities to help them gain valuable life skills such as communication, teamwork and leadership. Additional training and certification opportunities including American Red Cross Lifeguard Training are offered in the second year of the CIT program.

Daily Schedule
Counselor-In-Training program participants will have a daily schedule much like the regular camper schedule. In addition to their instructional activities CITs will have daily responsibilities that will help them gain work ethic, self esteem, independence and safety awareness.

Privileges
Counselors-In-Training will also have special privileges including time-off excursions, extended out-of-camp trips, and a CIT T.V. lounge. CITs will play an integral role in the camp community and have ample opportunity to get to know campers and counselors while also forming a strong group bond with their fellow CITs.

Application Process
There is limited space in the Fernwood Cove CIT program each summer. Participants are chosen through an application process which includes a written application, written character references and interviews as needed. Applications are due in the early fall of the year prior to the summer of participation (example: early fall 2010 is the deadline for 2011 applicants). Notification of acceptance into the CIT program will occur approximately one month after the application deadline.
