Find Out More About the CIT Program
The Fernwood Cove CIT Program is a dynamic, full summer experience for Fernwood Cove alumni who are currently in 10th – 12th grades. Unlike many CIT programs the Fernwood Cove CIT Program has a set curriculum providing consistency for every girl who participates in the program. The curriculum is built of a variety of hands-on activities that take place both in and out of camp. These activities provide CITs with firsthand experiences of communication, activity development, being a role model and above all being a leader within the community.
CITs gain a vast amount of knowledge and skills during each summer of the CIT Program. Many aspects of the Fernwood Cove CIT Program are things CITs will be able to use when they return home and into their adulthood. The Fernwood Cove CIT Program Curriculum is broken down into six categories: Health & Safety; Camp Operation; Leadership & Teambuilding; Youth Development; Trips; and Counselor Responsibilities. Both years of the CIT Program cover various aspects of each category, with the second summer building on the previous one. CITs who complete both summers of the CIT Program and move on to become counselors will enter their first counselor summer with the skills and knowledge similar to a well-weathered Fernwood Cove Counselor. These skills and experiences will easily translate to the non-camp world as well provide Fernwood Cove CITs strength and stability as they continue their journey into adulthood.
Fernwood Cove CITs are chosen through an application process which includes a written application, three written references, parental forms and interviews as needed. Applications are due in during the early fall prior to the summer of participation. CITs are able to withdraw from the program however applicants should be committed to being in the program when they apply. It is important to note that participation in the CIT Program does not guarantee employment at Fernwood Cove as a counselor or otherwise, nor is participation in the program required to later apply to be a counselor.
