Fernwood Cove, girls summer camp, offers a wide variety activities ranging from performing arts and theater to water sports and outdoor adventure. No matter which activities campers choose, our camp counselors are highly skilled in their specific activity area and each camper receives top quality, and personal instruction. Fernwood Cove’s daily summer camp programs go beyond the skill building; our counselors also teach the value of teamwork, leadership and respect for tradition, among many others, to provide a well rounded perspective to each of our activties. Fernwood Cove offers special evening programs following dinner each night to complete the daily schedule. In addtion to our daily camp programs we offer inter-camp events, special programs, trip days, and many other fun suprises to round out each camper’s experience at Fernwood Cove.

There are five focus days, one trip day and one day for alternative programming (Sundays) per week. Fernwood Cove offers a wide variety of instructional activities that provide campers an opportunity to experience new challenges and develop new skills in a safe, non-competitive environment. The majority of the activities offered at camp are scheduled by either skill level or age group ensuring campers receive the appropriate level of instruction. Fernwood Cove meets or exceeds safety requirements of the American Camp Association (ACA) in each of its activity areas.
Each camper receives an individual schedule based on her specific activity choices. Campers complete activity sign-ups for each week of camp which allows them to experience new activities as their interests develop while at camp. Activity schedules are posted on the first day of each activity week.
Focus Activities
Focus activities occur daily for five days. Each five-day period is called a “focus week.” Focus activities last 55 minutes. There are six focus activities per day. Each camp session has 3 focus weeks, giving each camper access to a total of 18 focus activities.Intensives
An “intensive” is an activity that older (8th & 9th grade) campers take for either two or all three of their focus weeks. The number of intensives a camper is allowed varies with her grade level. During the first week your daughter may “try out” activities that she feels she would like to take as an intensive. After the first focus week she can decide which activities she would like to keep as her intensives for the remainder of the camp session.Find out more about our many different activities:

EVENING PROGRAMS
Evening programs are held every night after dinner. The evening program will often be announced at dinner time to keep the element of surprise for the campers throughout the entire day. Back to Top
SUNDAY PROGRAMS
Sunday’s are special days at Fernwood Cove. The day begins with a LAZY BREAKFAST! All staff and campers may sleep in (campers can go to the Chick to play quiet games and read if they don’t want to sleep in). Campers and counselors are able to come to breakfast in their pajamas and enjoy a buffet style breakfast at their leisure.
Breakfast is followed by our daily flag raising and a weekly non-sectarian, ethical service organized and delivered by the girls in our three oldest age groups. These services give the older girls a
chance to talk about things like friendship, respect, trust and many others to the younger campers and share their experience and their stories. Upon completion of the service, campers participate in bunk activities before heading into lunch.
As Sunday is more of a lazy day, we extend rest hour and have an all-camp activity for the afternoon. Many of these wonderful all camp activities include, but are not limited to, colorwar teambreak games, a carnival, and special activities planned by our oldest campers, our seniors. Dinner follows these wonderful special programs and of course an evening program rounds out this fun and relaxing day for all. Back to Top

TRIP DAYTrip day is just as it sounds a day of trips. Trip Day is one of the most exciting and rewarding days in the Fernwood Cove weekly program. Fernwood Cove offers our campers an active outdoor tripping program one day a week.

Every Thursday all of our campers and staff go on excursions throughout Maine and New Hampshire. We want the girls to experience the lakes, mountains and quiet byways, (Hiking. Biking, Canoeing) along with the exciting whitewater, rock faces and nature discoveries (climbing, kayaking, ocean, gem mines and woods walking). Qualified staff members accompany each group and any trips that involve aquatic activities are accompanied by a staff member who is First Aid and Lifeguard certified. Sometimes special interest trips are arranged for photography or art. Girls will also be overnight camping and cooking out. As the girls grow older there are specific age group overnights offered. In all cases our intent is to give them a treat and a challenge. Back to Top
SPECIAL EVENTS
Along with our daily programs, evening programs, Sunday programs, inter-camp events and trip days, Fernwood Cove runs many special events throughout the entire summer. These events are always in line with Fernwood Cove’s values and philosophy and are to give the campers times to experience new things, become a leader in camp for our older campers, and mainly for everyone to get to know everyone else in camp. Some of these special events are, but of course, not limited to, an all camp carnival, a special banquet at the end of the summer, special guests such as, hypnotists, jugglers, African drummers, musical guests, color war games, age group activities and many many more events. These special events really round out the camp experience for our campers and make Fernwood Cove an even more magical place. Back to Top
