Meet the Trustees

Carrie Marsh / President Fernwood Cove Foundation

Carrie (Bacharach) grew up in the rural suburbs of Baltimore, Maryland. Her father enjoyed summers as a camper and counselor at Camp Caribou and asked Carrie’s grandparents to help send her and her little sister Laura to a residential summer camp in Maine to experience the joy of camp! Carrie joined the Fernwood Cove family in 2000, when she was 12 years old and continued as a camper through her senior summer in 2003.  In 2007 Carrie returned to Fernwood Cove as a counselor through Summer 2010. Carrie instructed vocal theatre and assisted with summer musicals as well as the development of an a capella group.  After Carrie’s campers finished their senior year, she became a Trustee of the Fernwood Cove Foundation, where she oversees campership applications to allow all campers the opportunity to experience camp through their senior year.  Carrie holds a Masters in Education from Loyola University and is an Elementary Music Teacher in Baltimore, Maryland where she lives with her husband Shawn, their daughter Lyla, and their rescue dog Max.

 

Abby Himmelrich / Secretary Fernwood Cove Foundation

Abby grew up in Baltimore, MD and in 5th grade, decided she wanted to go to a sleepaway camp in Maine. Her Fernwood Cove experience started in 2001 when she spent her first summer at camp and continued until her Flamingo summer in 2005. Abby’s sister, Molly, joined her at camp in 2003 after hearing Abby’s many wonderful camp stories. In 2009, Abby decided to return to camp as a counselor where she taught Fabric Arts. Abby was a counselor for 6 summers until her campers finished their first year of the CIT program. She also got to spend two summers working at camp with her sister, Molly. Camp is a true family experience for Abby, as even her brother was a counselor at Fernwood Cove too. As both a camper and counselor, Abby loved that camp was a place where she could try new activities and most importantly, make lifelong friendships. Abby now lives in Washington, DC with her dog Rosie where she is a Reading Specialist. She, her sister, and her brother always talk about camp whenever they are together.

 

Hope Snodgrass / Treasure Fernwood Cove Foundation

Hope was born and raised in Baltimore County, Maryland. Although she never attended a residential summer camp she discovered Fernwood Cove through her childhood friend, Carrie Bacharach. When in college, Carrie encouraged Hope to step out of her comfort zone and apply to be a Fernwood Cove counselor. In 2009 Hope joined Fernwood Cove where she was a tennis instructor and the camp trumpeter. Hope was only able to spend two summers with Fernwood Cove but they were undeniably formative in her life. In 2020 Hope joined the Fernwood Cove Foundation as a Trustee. Hope holds a Masters of Arts in Arts Administration from Indiana University. It was through this program that she became involved in nonprofit fundraising. Hope currently resides in Bloomington, Indiana where she is the Manager of Development Operations & Annual Giving for Indiana University’s College of Arts and Sciences.

 

Eligibility for a Scholarship

Eligibility to receive scholarship grants shall be limited to girls under the age of eighteen (18) who wish to attend Fernwood Cove but who cannot attend without financial assistance. The Trustees shall obtain financial disclosure from the prospective camper’s parent or guardian. Scholarship grants shall be awarded without discrimination on the basis of race, color, or national or ethnic origin. The number of scholarships awarded each year may vary according to funds available, the number of qualified applicants and the amount of financial need.
